A pattern of a boy’s shirt is provided. You are advised to study the sketches, the instructions and layout carefully before you begin the test.

Materials provided

1. Pattern pieces.

A. Shirt front with facing.

B. Shirt back.

C. Sleeve.

D. Back neck facing

E. Sleeve opening strip.

F. Collar.

G. Cuff.

2. Plain light weight cotton fabric 85 cm long by 91 cm wide.

3. Sewing thread to match the fabric.

4. Button 1.2cm diameter.

5. One large envelope.


Using the materials provided, cut out make the LEFT HALF of the shirt to show the following processes:-

a) Making of a machine fell seam at the shoulder.

b) Joining the back and front facing and neatening the free edge of the facing.

c) The preparation and attaching of an interfaced collar.

d) Working a neatened open seam at the side.

e) Preparation of continuous wrap opening.

f) Preparation and attaching of the cuff.

g) Preparation and attaching of the sleeve using plain seam.

h) Attaching the button.
At the end of the examination, firmly sew onto your work, on a single fabric, a label bearing your name and index number, remove the needles and pins from your work, then fold your work neatly and place it in the envelope provided.

Do not put scraps of fabric in the envelope. 45 marks
